Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation Announces 2012 PennPAT Artist Roster 135 of Pennsylvania's Finest Performing Artists
Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation has announced the 2012 Artist Roster for its Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour (PennPAT) program. The 2012 Roster is comprised of 135 outstanding and diverse performing artists and ensembles, including 33 dance companies/solo dance artists, 84 musicians or music ensembles, and 18 theater artists/groups and storytellers. Twenty-four (24) of those artists are new to the roster in 2012, including 14 first-time Roster Artists.
A list of the 2012 Artist Roster is available here. Detailed profiles of each 2012 Roster Artist, including audio or video clips, will be available on our website in early November 2011.
PennPAT increases opportunities for professional performing artists to obtain successful touring engagements. PennPAT Roster Artists are eligible for a variety of grants, services and support related to touring. Direct grants to artists include Technical Assistance Grants, which support projects that improve marketing and tour management capabilities, and Strategic Opportunity Grants, which support travel costs for international touring engagements that represent a strategic opportunity for the artist to expand his/her future touring ability. All 2012 Roster Artists are eligible to apply for these grants beginning January 1, 2012.
PennPAT also generates earned revenue for Roster Artists by supporting touring engagements with presenting organizations in the mid-Atlantic region (Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and West Virginia), as well as Ohio. The first deadline for presenters to apply for funding for an engagement with a 2012 Roster Artist is February 15, 2012, for projects scheduled between June 1, 2012 and May 31, 2014. The guidelines and application are available at www.pennpat.org.
PennPAT accepts applications from Pennsylvania artists who wish to be included in the Artist Roster every year. This year applications were due June 1, 2011. A multidisciplinary panel of performing arts professional reviewed the applications and recommended artists based on artistic quality and touring readiness. Panelists included:
- Rob Bailis, Director, ODC Theater, San Francisco, CA
- David Gonzalez, Performer, Rain Art Productions, New York, NY
- Marsha Hogan, Director, Willow Grove Branch, Settlement Music School, Willow Grove, PA
- Joshua Kohn, Programming Manager, National Council for the Traditional Arts, Silver Spring, MD
- Claire Porter, Choreographer/Performer, Portables, Teaneck, NJ
- Doug Richards, Professor of Music/Founder of Jazz Studies Program, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA
The panel recommended that 24 artists and ensembles be added to the current roster, including 5 dance companies; 16 musicians or music ensembles; and 3 theater artists. One hundred and eleven (111) artists included on the 2011 Roster were automatically renewed for the 2012 Roster, following staff review in January 2011.
